The purpose of these scholarships is to contribute to research into and knowledge of the Mediterranean Biosphere. The candidate will be required to study in a different autonomous region from the one in which he/she studied for their bachelors degree.
The First Call for Applications for Masters Degree Scholarships from the FPdGi and the UNESCO International Centre for Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves is now open. The scholarships, established by the Princess of Girona Foundation and the Abertis Foundation, are for young researchers wishing to study for an official masters degree in environmental studies at a Spanish university. Two scholarships each amounting to €18,000 gross per year will be awarded for a maximum of two years with the aim of defraying the total labour costs for each scholarship student incurred by the contracting university. These scholarships have been established with the aim of contributing to research into and knowledge of the Mediterranean Biosphere.
Recipients of the scholarship will be required to study for their master’s degree in a different autonomous region from the one where they studied for their bachelor’s degree with the aim of fostering labour mobility. The successful candidate must also hold a university degree, obtained between January 2012 and July 2017, entitling him/her to study on an official masters programme in accordance with prevailing legislation.
The FPdGi-UNESCO International Centre for Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves’ Master’s Degree Scholarships are for areas of knowledge related to the centre’s priority themes (climate change, interactions between social and ecological systems, conflict prevention and management of biodiversity).

•This new agreement between Abertis Foundation and the Spanish National Parks Agency (OAPN in its Spanish acronym)—a Spanish public body under the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO)—ensures the continued operation of the UNESCO-endorsed International Centre. The renewed partnership strengthens cooperation and knowledge exchange among Mediterranean Biosphere Reserves.
•The agreement aims to foster research initiatives, training programmes, pilot projects and outreach activities that advance the sustainability of Mediterranean ecosystems and enhance the resilience of biosphere reserves in the face of climate change.
•The renewal consolidates the role of the Abertis Foundation's headquarters at Castellet Castle as a leading hub for biosphere reserve activities, both within the Mediterranean region and internationally.
