Coinciding with World Volunteer Day (Sunday 5 December), on Friday 3 December abertis held its second Volunteer Day, promoted by the abertis foundation. Under the slogan “Another way of doing things”, on this occasion the day focused on increasing disability awareness among the Group’s employees. And given the proximity to the festive season, throughout the whole week, clothes and food were collected in over 20 Group centres in Spain, and in the abertis offices in Chile.
A large part of Volunteer Day activities were held in the abertis corporate headquarters in Barcelona, located in the Zona Franca Logistics Park, where a total of 1,100 employees work. The programme got underway with two symposia, “Volunteer work and society in the future” and “Disability and the world of employment: myths and realities”, given by Àngels Guiteras, Chairwoman of the Taula d’Entitats del Tercer Sector Social de Catalunya; and Ramón Giró, director of the Seeliger & Conde Foundation, respectively. In turn, the members of Voluntaris presented their Teaming project, which will encourage employees to donate one euro per month to fund social initiatives. Accordingly, the abertis foundation announced a donation of a total of €40,000 to be shared out among five solidarity initiatives, suggested by the abertis Group employees and voted for by their workmates via the corporate intranet.
The day ended with an extensive programme of organised activities in the Group’s different offices in Spain and Chile. A solidarity fair was set up in the main offices of the Logistics Park, where objects made by special work centres employing disabled workers were sold.
In the iberpistas Operation and Control Centre in San Rafael (Segovia), a handicrafts and paintings exhibition of the APADEFIM- Personas Foundation was organised, along with a blindness and visual impairment awareness workshop, in collaboration with the ONCE Foundation.
