Throughout 2010, the abertis foundation worked on the establishment of the chaire abertis, which was inaugurated in January 2011. Created jointly by the abertis foundation and l’École des Ponts ParisTech-IFSTTAR (Institut Français des Sciences et Technologies des Transports, de l’Aménagement et des Réseaux), it is headed by Professor Simon Cohen. The chair's activities will focus on training and research in transport infrastructure management, and will be aimed at students, researchers, teaching staff and professionals in the field. Initially, along with the UPC-abertis chair (Polytechnic University of Catalonia), it will make up a European network of specialised chairs. The two chairs will award the annual abertis research prize for transport infrastructure management.
