21st century challenge: health as a priority

On 9 October, cardiologist Valentí Fuster gave a conference in the MNAC to present the early results of the latest research on cardiovascular diseases conducted in Chicago city. Using new imaging techniques it will identify which people run a greater risk of a heart attack.
He is also director of the Cardiovascular Institute of Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and Scientific President of the National Centre for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC), an institution with which the abertis foundation cooperates through the Pro-CNIC foundation. In his presentation he pointed out that factors including being overweight and smoking increase the risk of suffering cardiovascular diseases from age 50 onwards by 25%.
