This book in Catalan brings together a summary of eleven research projects backed by the abertis foundation and completed over this three-year period. Two of them dealt with road safety issues: Bases for a system of measuring and predicting travel time by road in Catalonia (P-Temps) and Study of systems for responding to emergencies on roads and motorways (SIRECA). Six of the studies are connected with the environment: Comparative analysis of models for managing public use of national parks – case studies: Costa Rica, Galapagos, the USA and Spain; Biomass as a source of raw materials and power: viability study in the Montseny and Montnegre-Corredor; The fragmentation of forests on the Vallès plain; and The importance of extensive stock farming in conserving biodiversity: integrated environmental assessment of stock farming in the setting of the Alt Pirineu nature park (Pallars Sobirà); Optimising water resources in the service areas of Spanish motorways: a proposal for the Montseny-Pina de Ebro transect (AP-7/AP-2) and Air quality around motorways: ozone creation around the northern stretch of the AP-7. Two of the projects are connected with the economy: The emergence of regional airports in Spain and The rural world in the 21st century: a compromise between culture, communications infrastructure, new technologies and local initiative. The other research project was about demographics: Habitual mobility and living spaces in Spain: an approximation based on the 2001 census. This book is available in Catalan and Spanish.
