In 2009 abertis launched its Corporate Volunteer Programme, “Voluntaris”, the first major initiative of which was the holding of the first Volunteer Day on 1st and 2nd December, as part of the events to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the abertis foundation, and in advance of International Volunteer Day, which fell on 5th December.

Both the company’s corporate headquarters in the Logistics Park of Barcelona’s Zona Franca and the iberpistas operations and control centre in San Rafael welcomed different NGO’s, who presented their projects with the aim of encouraging employees of the group to join in with them. Moreover, clothes and food collection points for the Food Bank Foundation were set up at the abertis headquarters in Barcelona, at the iberpistas centre in San Rafael and at the eight aumar sites on the AP-7 and AP-4 motorways. Food was also collected at 12 abertis telecom sites throughout Spain, among other charity events.

The abertis Corporate Volunteer Programme is a project set up by group employees themselves. abertis has provided them with a framework within which to act, setting up a Central Volunteer Committee, and has made communication tools available to them to pursue the Programme. From 2010 onwards, different local volunteer committees will be set up to assess initiatives proposed by group employees, and will inform the other employees about those which are accepted. There are also plans to extend the holding of Volunteer Day to business units in different countries.
