The abertis foundation has existed since 1999 as an organisation devoted to fostering and disseminating studies of the repercussions of major infrastructures on the regions, particularly on the economy, population and environment, always in cooperation with universities and academic institutions.
As part of its response to a commitment to social responsibility, abertis, the premier group in Europe in developing and running transport and communications infrastructures, the foundation also runs a Road Safety Programme with the aim of making the population aware of the need for responsible mobility.
The foundation itself has inherited the sensitivity for historic and artistic heritage of the companies which today make up the abertis group. This results in measures to foster and publicise heritage in order to bring culture to the general public. Mention must also be made of the different schemes run by the foundation in the sphere of social and community action.
The abertis foundation is chaired by Salvador Alemany Mas and has its headquarters at the castle of Castellet, in Castellet i la Gornal (Barcelona province).
