Road Traffic Education

A total of 101,269 pupils benefited from the abertis foundation’s Road Safety Education Programme in Schools during the three school years in which it was run on a semi face-to-face basis. Under the slogan of “Drive your family,” the scheme was aimed at pupils aged between 8 and 12 in primary schools in the regions of Catalonia, Madrid, Valencia, Andalusia and Castilla y Leon over the school years 2005-2006, 2006-2007 i 2007-2008. The scheme won the AEDME award in the Education category in 2007.

The Road Safety Education Programme in Schools set out from a goal of raising school children’s awareness of road safety, as well as fostering responsible behaviour and values in this aspect of public life. This involved a specialised trainer giving a class at schools, where the teachers then worked on the different teaching units with material designed by the abertis foundation. As the slogan indicates, the scheme also aimed to make parents and children interact and share knowledge and attitudes to enhance their safety.

The programme can now be followed online using a specific website, where parents, teachers and pupils at all the primary schools in Spain can find activities to work together on aspects of road safety.
