Barcelona, 16 June 2017

The Abertis Foundation has started its summer season of initiatives aimed at raising awareness among young people of the need to behave sensibly when behind the wheel, in particular when they are enjoying a night out and at greater risk of not exercising due care and attention.

The action, backed by Sitges town council, the Red Cross and the Guttmann Institute, is part of the “You only have one life” awareness-raising campaign which the Abertis Foundation has been running in recent years, and which has also been successfully transferred to other countries where the Group operates.

As part of this campaign, a group of monitors from the Guttmann Institute affected by spinal injuries sustained in traffic accidents and volunteers from the Red Cross approach young people enjoying a night out to raise awareness of the need to behave responsibly behind the wheel and highlight the dangers and potential consequences of driving under the effects of alcohol or drugs and losing concentration.

Josep María Ramírez, the director of the Guttmann Institute, praises Abertis for offering people who have sustained spinal injuries in a road accident the opportunity to raise awareness among young people of the risks of careless driving.

The director of the Abertis Foundation, Sergi Loughney, reiterates Abertis’ commitment to improving road safety by supporting drivers of all ages, , from inexperienced youngsters through to senior citizens over the age of 70 who are still behind the wheel.

The first initiative will take place tonight at the junction of Paseo Marítimo and Calle Primero de Mayo in Sitges from 24.00. The campaign which gets underway this weekend will continue after the summer in Mataró and Castelldefels.
